Nantucket Film Festival screens independent, studio-produced, foreign, documentary and short films in every genre, including world and U.S. Premieres. Films are selected with an eye for great screenwriting and storytelling.
Come hear new screenplays from emerging and noted screenwriters alike. Actors read from screenplays that are works-in-progress. The audience and the writers will share the opportunity to witness an actor's first impulse when exposed to the written word.

The tribute, sponsored by NBC Universal is a celebration of a noted screenwriter who has brought distinction to the craft of writing for film. This red carpet event is hosted by NBC NewÕs Brian Williams, who shows off his flair for the funny. Past honorees include: Ring Lardner Jr., Jay Presson Allen, Paul Schrader, Walter Bernstein, James Schamus, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Charlie Kaufman, Steve Martin and last yearÕs honors went to Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor.
Nantucket Film Festival hosts "Morning Coffee With…,"® an informal hour-long conversation with prominent guests from the festival program. Talent reveals what happened off the screen while they were making their films at this informal morning gathering. Coffee and muffins included.
The festival presents a series of talks on the nuts and bolts of the film industry and screenwriting with attending filmmakers, writers and producers. Panels such as Politics and Film or Writer-to-Writer Round Table highlight the unique issues filmmakers face. Past years have included James Lipton presenting the screenwriting version of Inside the Actors Studio with Steve Martin, delving into his body of written work and AO Scott on the NY Times interviewing Charlie Kaufman, Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Jim Carrey.
The seven-day program introduces and teaches ten Nantucket High School students the fundamentals of digital technology and the development of a good story. The students work with filmmakers and technology professionals to create short films that premiere on the final day of the festival.
A separate Teen Jury will also award a short film that most inspires dialogue on contemporary social issues.
A night on the beach. FREE! Nightly beach screenings- a community event and an island tradition. Join us at Children's Beach just after sunset (about 9:00) each night of the festival for beach-worthy flicks. Bring your dinner and a blanket!
